Lili’s is a playful approach to making and being.

Working in a wealth of materials and contexts, her art ranges from sculpture and woodwork to painting, illustration and performance art inspired and supported by her background in fine art, theatre, dance and equestrianism.

Recently returned to Auroville after graduating with a Masters in Fine Art from the Birmingham School of Art, Lili combines her work with the Treehouse Community and her ongoing research and development in horsemanship to drive her art practice in ever new directions.

Joy

I have enjoyed being part of theatre, dance and singing since I was a teenager for they gave me great joy and a sense of fulfilment.

After joining Auroville in 1977, I have continued to work and evolve in these fields, stimulated and encouraged by wonderful teachers, directors, choreographers and colleagues. Since the last twelve years I am more involved in singing and have produced, with the collaboration of other Aurovilian musicians, several albums for adults and children. I have discovered this to be a good medium for sharing with others one’s creativity, joy and aspiration.

AuroTejas Hemsell

Tejas performs and teaches Odissi and Semi Classical Bollywood Dance. She has dedicated her life to the study of Bharathanatyam and Odissi. Tejas has also studied Kathak, Bellydance, African dance, Ballet and Salsa, which gives her a unique style that she incorporates into her Bollywood choreographies. Tejas travels the world teaching and performing Indian Dance, her greatest passion.

Her motto is: Dance as though no one is watching.

Being an autodidact music composer, I create electronic music since 1998.
Whether it is electroscape, techno, hip-hop or raggaeton I create pieces, remix tracks and perform live sets made to dance or simply to be appreciated as a painted adventure.

Another side of my creative self is Capoeira. I started learning it in 2000 under Mestre Branco and created my own group in 2007.
From traditional to contemporary styles I explore the various facets of the Capoeira dice and like shifting from one to another. I am one of the teachers of Auroville Capoeira.

I also have a passion for making instruments such as didjeridoo, berimbau, pandeiro, reco-reco and others.

Chloe Sanchez

Chloe travels between Auroville and France where she composes sounds for performing art, radio and documentary. Producer and director for Radio France (French National Radio), she has also created the Hand Made Radio Art (Collective Labo-radiophonic live performance).

In September 2013 she joined the composition class of electroacoustic music at the Experimental Music Conservatory of Pantin (France).

Born: 17 April 1954 in Trier, Germany.
I studied Vis.Com./Arts in Germany and worked as Graphic Designer in Advertisement Agencies. After coming to Auroville in 1981, I continued design work including book publications, exhibitions and graphics. Since 1984, I worked in various art-forms:
– Oil Painting (with exhibitions in Auroville, Pondicherry, Chennai, Delhi, and Germany)
– Architecture (several houses in Auroville, projects, plans and models)
– Sculpture (in Terracotta, White Marble and Light-sculptures in Plexiglass)
as well as Music (drums and percussion…already in Germany, then here in Auroville in various bands).

In 1994, I started ‘Kalabhumi’ (the ‘Land of Arts’) in the heart of the Cultural Zone of Auroville – the beginning of a Cultural Centre with ateliers and studios for the education and practice of all forms of Art Expression. In the last few years (before 2012), the main work-focus was on Architecture and as member of the Town-Planning Group L’avenir d’Auroville/ Town Development Council. Since April 2012 I live in Germany and work on oil paintings, with exhibitions in November and December.

Nuria Casanova

Singer, choir director and music teacher. I studied classical singing, piano and musicology at the University in Barcelona. Throughout the years I have continued studying with teachers specialized in different musical styles.

Since 1991 I have performed as a classical singer and in recent years I have expanded into the jazz field.

Since 1992 I am conducting the Auroville choir and the Auroville Children choir. Our repertoire includes classical and popular music, and musicals.

I have been teaching in Transition school since 1994.
