Discover from where our food grows to where it goes.

We are starting with Forest Week, from October 5th, to discover how forests are connected to biodiversity, water, soil, climate, farming, and ultimately the food we eat.

The week will include an exhibition, visits, a movie screening, discussions, and other activities.

Come and explore:

🌳 The Story of the Forest 🍄 Hidden Life of the Forest 🌱 Trees as Living Organisms 💧 Forest & Water 🌍 Forests & Climate 🌿 Forest Restoration

The exhibition is open to everyone and does not require registration.

For the other activities, registration is required:

Each activity can be joined independently, but we encourage you to take part in as many as possible.

Forests → to farms → to food → to our community.

See you there!

Warmly,

YouthLink Team

In The Round #5: Experiment, a series of conversations on creativity, culture and context

Lapdiang Syiem, Mallika Taneja, Mohit Takalkar & Vivek Madan
    in conversation with Neel Chaudhuri

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the shutting down of performance spaces, theatre makers in India entered an indefinite period of limbo. The theatre now needed to respond to a challenge to its most fundamental and ritualistic relationship – that between the performer and the gathered audience. Across the country, practitioners committed themselves to finding ways to innovate and adapt, to build and share work for digital platforms.

How have these experiments re-configured and re-imagined the space of the theatre for a remote audience? How have they grappled with the expectation of liveness, intimacy and immediacy in performance? Can the theatre make its audience excited about the technology that has now become quotidian in our daily experience

Join us in conversation with four artists who will share their diverse experiences of building and performing theatre in the pandemic, to be shared digitally: Lapdiang Syiem (Shillong), whose interactive piece Ngan hiar sha Wah (I’m going down to the River) was a part of the Refunction Festival 2021; Mallika Taneja (Delhi), whose production Allegedly recently received the ZKB Patronage Prize at the Zurich Theatrespektakel; Mohit Takalkar (Pune), who staged and filmed The Colour of Loss, an adaptation of The White Book by Han Kang; and Vivek Madan (Bangalore), who has performed in QTP’s Every Brilliant Thing, a solo stage production that adapted itself for audiences online in 2020.

Strategic Management in the Art of Theatre (SMART) is India’s first programme for theatre practitioners that aims to build knowledge, skills and expertise about arts management from within the Indian theatre community.

    Talking Maps: Route 033

    An informal conversation between
Madhuja Mukherjee, Urvi Mukhopadhyay, Epsita Halder, Samim Ahmed, Sanjoy Mukhopadhyay and Sumona ChakravartyWednesday, September 29, 2021 | 05:30 PM | Zoom and Facebook Live

Join us for an evening of ‘adda’, an informal conversation between Madhuja Mukherjee and a panel comprising Urvi Mukhopadhyay, Epsita Halder, Samim Ahmed, Sanjoy Mukhopadhyay and Sumona Chakravarty, as part of Madhuja’s project Route no. 033.Route no. 033 is a creative project with photographs, images, videos, sounds, voices and noise, which will culminate in an installation in 2022. The installation will be preceded by a series of ‘addas’ of  which Talking Maps is the first.  A city is like a palimpsest with layered and intermeshed histories and maps. Some of the questions that this conversation will address are: How are cities or a city like Kolkata traversed by the people? How do we remember places following the erasure of the recognisable markers? How do we create our own emotional and intimate geographies? Can we say that: people themselves become places, marks and markers of our living map, just as our faces, decorated with the lines of memory, become the map of our passing?

Click here to join the discussion on Zoom. The discussion will also be streamed live on Victoria Memorial Hall’s Facebook page.

    About the Speakers:

Urvi Mukhopadhyay is Associate Professor of History, West Bengal State University. Epsita Halder is Associate Professor of Comparative Literature, Jadavpur University, Kolkata.  Samim Ahmed is Associate Professor of Philosophy, Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira, Belur Math, West Bengal. Sanjoy Mukhopadhyay is former Professor of Film Studies, Jadavpur University, Kolkata. Sumona Chakravarty is the founder of Hamdasti and is currently the Deputy Director of Ghare Baire, DAG Museums at the Currency Building, Kolkata. Madhuja Mukherjee is Professor of Film Studies, Jadavpur University, Kolkata. In The Round #4: Space, a series of conversations on creativity, culture and context

Kallol Bhattacharyya, Manu Jose, Michaela Talwar & Rupali Bhave
    in conversation with Sunil Shanbag

Over the last five years, there has been a perceptible shift in the theatre landscape in India. Small, independent alternative performance spaces have been mushrooming in many cities across the country, profoundly changing the way in which theatre is created, curated and received in these places.

During the pandemic many independent spaces, whose financial models were precarious even in the best of times, have had to shut down. Some have managed to survive by adapting, improvising and even radically re-inventing themselves. Was there a price to pay? Are they able to hold on to their original vision? How has it impacted their work? What has happened to the community of practitioners and audiences they served? What does the future hold?

Join us to listen in on the diverse experiences of a group of people who run some of our most exciting independent alternative performance spaces: Kallol Bhattacharyya of Tepantar in rural Bengal, Manu Jose of Ala from Mulanthuruthy, Kerala, Michaela Talwar of Mumbai’s Harkat Studios and Rupali Bhave of The Box in Pune will be in conversation with Sunil Shanbag of Studio Tamaasha in Mumbai.

    in conversation with Sameera Iyengar

During both the first and second wave of COVID-19, theatre people, under pressure themselves, stepped up to give much-needed relief to their communities.

In this panel, we speak with four people from different parts of the country who ran / are running very diverse relief efforts.

    • What about their performing arts practice brought them to these relief efforts?
    • Which communities did they reach out to and why?
    • How did they imagine and organise their relief, given their own paucity of resources?
    • How will this experience feed back into their practice in the future?

Join us as Sameera Iyengar (Core Team, SMART) speaks with Studio Tamaasha’s Sapan Saran on the TheatreDost initiative in Mumbai, Nisha Abdulla (Bengaluru) and the Deep Listening Circle, Anurupa Roy (Delhi) and the multiple relief efforts she and her team at Katkatha have been involved in, and Sanjoy Ganguly (Madhyamgram, West Bengal) on the relief efforts of Jana Sanskriti through COVID and Amphan.

Continues for three more weeks, facilitated by Shalini.

Our voices hold so much—from perfectionism and shame to our authenticity, power, and emotional aliveness. In the first part of this circle we will connect the voice with breath and body to feel resourced and grounded. We will then combine singing with body-based inquiry to understand what our voice holds, and use loving touch to soothe the parts that ask for our attention. We may even dip our toes into new felt experiences that the voice can access. You are warmly invited—especially if you believe you cannot sing! We build on a foundation of autonomy and self-honouring, so you will never be pushed into anything you do not feel is right for you.
