WHITE NIGHT On January 26th, 4pm – Centre d’Art Citadines https://auroartworld.org/white-night-on-january-26th-4pm-centre-dart-citadines/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=white-night-on-january-26th-4pm-centre-dart-citadines Mon, 28 Jan 2019 06:10:11 +0000 http://artservice.auroville.org/?p=13553 WHITE NIGHT

On January 26th, at 4pm, Pondicherry artists Danasegar, Ezhilarasan, and Vengadesan invite you to a very
special event ‘White Night’ in the exhibition spaces at Centre d’Art Citadines, which will host their art works
until February 16th.

The deep friendship that binds these artists goes back to their student years at Bharathiar Palaikoodam
(Pondicherry) and finds its source in a omni-comprehensive vocation for art. ‘White Night’ is the title
chosen by the trio as a password that gives access to their galaxy. It is the common thread that connects
the creative worlds of these seemingly very different artists, the underground river that emerges along
their paths and merges them into an irresistible stream: the absolute joy of creation.
‘White Night’ is this undefinable space between wakefulness and sleep where the mind lowers its guard
and leaves room for vision. This is the moment when the artist, like a shaman, captures all that manifests
through him and embodies the immaterial.

For the three of them it is like a journey. It is a real journey for Ezhilarasan, who found in the Himalayas his
land of choice. There, he could absorb its purity, its glaciers, its primordial colors, which he restores back in
the form of emotional and sensory landscapes. He paints his canvases as if they were walls, on the
degenerated surface of the city life, with spots, graffiti, intersecting color layers, porous fragments of
bodies that live convulsive realities.

For Danasegar, too, the human body is not a separate entity. It is everything, it is everywhere, it is the
matter that surrounds it, the subject and the object. Danasegar travels in his dreams. In this world of the
inexplicable, he is the magician. There he meets his ancestors, people passed away since time immemorial,
to whom he gives voice. He fills his daily life with dreamlike stories, labyrinths of colors torn from the
invisible.

Vengadesan was struck down in Varanasi. He returns there as we return to the origin. He draws his
inspiration from the Hindu pantheon and its bewitching rites. There he found small statues of Kali, or Shiva.
Now he is filling his canvases with formidable mineral-skinned divinities that sit in low relief on their
kingdom of temples, stairways that run down to the Ganges, surrounded by sannyasin and Nandi. His art
links together innumerable coexistences, states of consciousness declined to infinity.
‘White Night’ is the nocturnal creatures of Vengadesan, the black light of creation, according to Ezhilarasan,
the light and the dark, the two apparently irreconcilable aspects of the same reality, according to
Danasegar. It is the blanks left by the artists as a space of the unfinished, where the pictorial and non-
pictorial language stops to give way to the inexpressible.

Art for Land Exhibition 2019
February 1 st – March 15 th
continuing Auroville’s 50 th Anniversary celebrations
An Invitation to the worldwide Artist Family

Dear Friends,
We will soon be launching the “Art for Land” 2019 exhibition – a beautiful showcase for artistic creativity as well as a solidarity action for Auroville’s still-missing land!

As this, our 4 th edition, will be part of the last months of the 50 th Year celebrations, our aspiration is to make this event very special. Art, Beauty, and Creativity are all intrinsic parts of Auroville. So let’s make this new exhibition really great – a living homage to Auroville’s 50 years, worthy of the Vision & Dream of the Mother. We invite you all to join this venture and to invite all your artist friends!

As before, in an action of flowing generosity, all donations for the works you contribute will go to the “Acres for Auroville” campaign as land donations and will be used exclusively for land purchase for the urgently-needed missing acres of Auroville’s Master Plan area. For our old friends, your artworks remaining from last year’s exhibition could either be showcased again, or be taken back and replaced – or added to – by new works that you have created this year. If you have something to offer for this 4 th edition, we will be delighted! Please let us know
quickly so we can begin planning. Also, please indicate whether you will need transport for delivering it to the Unity Pavilion. More details will be forthcoming very soon.

We thank each one of you for your precious collaboration for our previous exhibitions and in advance for your participation in this one!
With our warm appreciation,

The Art For Land – Unity Pavilion Team of Jaya, Devasmita, & Rema
In association with the “Auroville Arts Service” & the “Acres for Auroville” campaign

  • increase knowledge about the SDGs and their potential impacts on women among non-traditional audiences; and
  • collaborate with private sector partners on all SDGs, but SDG5 in particular; to share best practices and innovative ideas.

The first ever SDGs&Her competition in 2018 attracted over 1,200 contenders through an online competition platform from 88 countries. The 2019 season of the competition is now open:

Eligibility: The competition is open to women who own and/or lead microenterprises (1-9 employees; under USD $10,000 loan eligibility OR annual sales under $100,000).

To Enter: Applicants complete a short online template, describing their work and linking their initiative/product to 1 or more SDGs.

Judging: Entries will be screened by a university partner and then judged by an expert panel. Judges will determine the winners based on the impact on the SDGs, vision and purpose, and clarity of the entries.

Prizes: The top winners will be recognized in April 2019 at an event on the margins of the 2019 World Bank Group-IMF Spring Meetings in Washington D.C. The stories of the winning women entrepreneur (and many other notable entries) will be shared through partners’ social media and websites.

Greetings from Adishakti!
We are delighted to let you know that we are hosting two unique Solo Pieces on Wednesday the 14th of November, 7pm onwards.
We will start with ALTROVE which is a Swiss solo work choreographed by Alessandro Schiattarella. This solo is the result of such explorative research, beyond and elsewhere what a body can do, feel, experience and sense through the compositional power of dance expression.
Duration: 20 mins

This piece will be followed by THE RINGATORUS  which is a three-part piece set in long-form drawings and static visuals; and what moves the hand, what habituates the manners in which the eyes read, how it extracts meaning through this direction. This piece is illustrated and performed by Visual artist Malavika PC.

Duration: 35 mins

Entry Free!
Donations are welcome.

RIP – Rest in Peace, enquiring Restlessness in Pieces

What is freedom? How free is a woman? Is she free to live on her own terms, to travel on
her own terms, to be herself, by herself? In RIP a woman seeks her path, within her restricted
life, tied to her husband, by first convincing her husband to take her with him on his work related
travel. Travelling is her dream. Through her travel she grows and frees herself. And, this is her
celebration!

An interactive solo, RIP is a woman’s personal, and political, narration full of satire and
humor. It takes the audience into a journey, also their own, of emotions, opinions and
questioning, of everyday and taken for granted conventionality of women’s lives, in individual,
social, cultural and political milieus.

Lively Up Your Earth 2019

On the 12th January 2019, Solitude Farm will be hosting Lively Up Your Earth 2019, our 6th eco-music festival. This year the focus is on bringing the value of local foods to our community. To do this we plan to have 13 stalls that demonstrate the value of foods such as banana stem, drumstick spinach, turkey berry, green papaya, etc… Offering interactive sessions with samples, leaflets, information, seeds and plants.

Along with this there will be Capoeira, Qi-gong, permaculture, the healing tree house, a kid’s space, face-painting, basket -weaving, a flea market, you know the whole thing! There will be music throughout the day and a dusk to dawn jam session featuring the Music Ashram from Berlin.

There is a lot of scope for collaboration. We would love people to be involved on different levels, so please get in touch if you see yourself doing something.

As mentioned above though, the core of the festival is to try and find new ways to share the incredible nutritional treasure trove that is native to our bio-region.

From the AUROVILLE ART CAMP team

Finding oneness in diversity and beauty

We did it!

The applications have come in and lots of thoughts come into mind.

It all started with a dream. This adventure was born last March when, during an art camp in Chittorgarh, a few of us contemplated the creation of an art camp in Auroville, the first of its kind. Now it is evolving into a cornucopia of wonders and an abundance of gratitude is emerging from the team.
First we would like to thank the Auroville 50th Anniversary Planning Group and Saiier, without whose unbelievable and spontaneous support, this project could not happen. Further, we want to express our gratitude to the community at large whose enthusiasm keeps us alert, happy and always motivated.

And then …the artists!

The abundance of wonderful Indian artists from all over India who have applied is not only thrilling but touching. They are talented( some of them well known internationally), deep, spirited, with a strong desire to evolve through art and beauty. The quality of their work promises an art camp that will be rich in evolvement and aesthetic, and bountiful in learning and experiences. As for our beautiful Aurovilian artists who have applied, thank you for your support. It reinforces powerfully the statement of one of our applicants: “To work artistically on the theme of ‘A new world is possible’ increases the richness, the creation and the strength of the affirmation that a new world is possible”. So your commitment is extremely meaningful.

And individually, as Aurovilians and members of the Auroville Art Camp team, we are learning humility in diversity. We recognise that every “limb” of the mutual body is indispensable and that every component complements and advances interest of the whole. We hope that this beautiful collective experience, this harmony in diversity, will help build a unified community; diverse and united by a cause greater than, and one that transcends, individual interest. With colours and musical notes, we hope to create beautiful art and symphonies of love.

Thanks to everyone in this community who is giving us their heart-felt support, and, most of all, thank you for helping Auroville to be a light to the world.

Corinne for the Auroville Art Camp team.

Open call 2019/20 ONASSIS AiR
Artists-in-Residency
Athens
Deadline: November 26, 2018

© Tassos Vretto

ONASSIS AiR (Artists-in-Residence) is a year-round program, located in the urban centre of Athens, that grounds its mission in commitment to supporting artistic process, towards a less product-obsessed arts ecosystem. The (inter)national artistic research and residency program in Athens (Greece) is being born in 2019 and is established by the Onassis Foundation.

The Onassis Foundation inaugurates the Onassis AiR, an (Inter)national Artistic Research and Residency Program for all international artists with curious minds, and invites them to submit their applications due 26th of November, 2018.

What if, artists, curators and other creators, could take their time to reconsider their practice without the constraints of the production frenzy?

Τhe Onassis AiR (Artists-in-Residence) is a year-round artistic research and residency program born in 2019, which offers time. Time to learn, to change, or go deeper by doing and undoing or non-doing. Without striving for the production of a final outcome/ creation, but rather focusing on the creative process itself.

During your time through the program and located in the urban centre of Athens, all participants can interact with each other as peers. Regardless of age or how accomplished they are. With a mission to support the artistic process, towards a less product-obsessed arts ecosystem, artists meet as part of a community who works, thinks, and eats together, without striving for the next project, the next premiere, the next opening. A community that has the ability to pause, to rethink how each one of us functions and creates.

Onassis AiR will support: Greek and international artists, curators, and thinkers working in time-based artistic disciplines, who wish to deepen, reconsider, or transform their practice or methodology, without the expectations and constraints of a production.

Onassis AiR has been designed and will be run by Ash Bulayev (director of Onassis AiR) and Nefeli Myrodia (creative producer & dramaturg of Onassis AiR).

Please find the Open Call and application forms here: Open Call – Onassis AiR

For Open Call in collaboration with the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA) please click here: Open Call – Onassis AiR + ASFA

Read more about each program strand:
Onassis AiR Critical Practices Program is a full-time, 3-month encounter of 5 practitioners living and working in Greece. The program is designed as a collective artistic research community of time-based professionals (visual artists, choreographers, theatre and film directors, composers, performers, curators, producers, designers, writers, cultural theorists, and other curious minds).
Onassis AiR (inter)national Curator & Artist-in-Residence Program is a one-month, individual artistic research residency for international and Greek artists, living in Greece or abroad. This strand is for any artist or curator or other creative and curious practitioner (time-based practice) who has a concrete artistic research question or project they would like to take further. Regardless of experience level, but assuming that each participant has an existing individual practice at the time of the application.
Onassis AiR Exchange Residencies are individual artistic research residencies, varying in duration and scope, taking place at one of our collaborating institutions, outside of Greece. Exchange Residencies are intended for artists living and working in Greece within time-based practices: artists, makers, designers, theorists, curators, and other curious minds who would benefit from participating in one of the collaborating programs around the world.
Onassis AiR Emergency Fellowships are the most reactive and tailor-made strand of Onassis AiR program. Emergency Fellowships are intended for international and local artists, curators, and other practitioners. Emergency Fellowships are meant to be a stimulus to artists and curators who have a unique, unanticipated, and very time-sensitive need.

Moments in between”
Photography exhibition by Yam Yardeni
Pitanga
October 27th till November 10th
Opening Saturday 27th, 4 pm

“Photography brings to me a sense of enjoying the moment without the need to capture it.” Yam Yardeni

What could be the “moments in between” for a 16-year-old teenager born and raised in Auroville? How is he able to capture those feelings through photography?
Yam Yardeni’s first encounter with photography was with the family camera in his home. His fascination of how he could capture a moment with a click started at the age of 6 when he told his mother Galit (herself once a photographer’s assistant) that he wanted to be a photographer. The last few years he has been experimenting with film editing and photography and has won the Wisdom Award at the Auroville Film Festival in 2013 and another award in a South African youth film competition in 2017 called “One United Roar” focusing on saving white lions. Learning photography with Ashwin in Last School has helped him bring a completely different dimension to his photographic style and vision.
Yam’s photography is about beauty: beauty of nature and beauty of people. Photographs of his brothers, Himalayan mountains, graffiti in London, rivers in Israel, the Matrimandir gardens – all are the demonstration of his state of mind during his holidays with his family or during quiet moments in Auroville.
Of the 22 photographs exposed in Pitanga, the little girl going down the steps remains my favourite. This picture was taken this last summer during a trip to the Galilee, Israel. The seriousness of her look, the composition of old steps filled with a falling carpet of twigs and leaves, the technique of chiaroscuro as well as of the autumnal colouring gives the picture an overall tone of nobility and makes one dream of ancient kingdoms. The name of the subject is Abigail and the historical overtones (Abigail was one of King David’s wives) adds to the tone of the photograph.

A moment in between:

“I was right on the edge of this river stream in the Galilee and the water was extremely soothing and beautiful. I saw this beautiful leaf which was once green and lively. I thought of how it fell into the river and looked now sad but how once it had a good life. The sun coming through the tree top made it enchanting.”

Yam Yardeni
Thank you Yam for this first exhibition of photographs and may your explorative soul and work be an inspiration to the sprouting young artists of Auroville.

New Creative Session at CREEVA! – Watercolour Geometry with Gino https://auroartworld.org/new-creative-session-at-creeva-watercolour-geometry-with-gino/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=new-creative-session-at-creeva-watercolour-geometry-with-gino Tue, 23 Oct 2018 06:53:38 +0000 http://artservice.auroville.org/?p=12736 Watercolour Geometry with Gino

Every Monday, 5 to 7pm. Creativity Atelier.

Watercolour is more than creating Art

– it is also a meditative practice.

In the first session, we will learn the subtle art of the brush stroke, and appropriate posture and breathing. Later we will look at how to use colours to create various tonalities, create distances and perspectives.

During the session there will be plenty of opportunities to see yourself in various moods and emotions in a very short time span. Some people might feel “I can’t do it! I am too clumsy! I am too this and not enough of that!” This is the same as when you sit and meditate: in one sitting you just sit quietly and in the next a crowd of monkeys jump inside your head. Or the disappointment when you have done something beautiful and then you add one more stroke and mess it all up.

Although an Art, the concept of the exercises is very similar to the martial arts discipline.

The ritual of painting is a path to raise one’s level of consciousness and awaken a power that lies within. Watercolour geometry can be a very powerful tool to centre oneself. When you practice watercolour geometry, it makes you see various aspects of yourself, of your personality and ego structure.

Fixed contribution for guests, reduction for Volunteers, Aurovilians and Newcomers are welcome to donate.

AV Artservice Final report on VAST BHU Festival – Auroville 50th Birthday in Baroda https://auroartworld.org/av-artservice-final-report-on-vast-bhu-festival-auroville-50th-birthday-in-baroda/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=av-artservice-final-report-on-vast-bhu-festival-auroville-50th-birthday-in-baroda Tue, 23 Oct 2018 06:10:24 +0000 http://artservice.auroville.org/?p=12706 Dear Frederick, Jurgen, dear Chali, dear Auroville birthday team we, Barbara, Philippe, Thierry, Gopal, Ashwin, Suresh(Vast team) and BHU team: Madhu, Prakash, Suresh K, Nikhil, Swaroop, want from the bottom of our heart to thank you for this beautiful festival in Baroda.

Curiously as aurovilians, in Baroda, we experienced Auroville community spirit in a deeper way on the tracks of Sri Aurobindo. It was wonderful for us to meet students, teachers, audience and to share our creative process inspired by Sri Aurobindo and Mother. We really had a great time with you, thank you for the organization of such an event and your commitment, kindness, caring and support.

Thank you also to the Dean Prof. Ajay Ashtaputre and to Trilok Singh Mera, head of Drama department and to the teachers of Dance dept. especially Dhowani Ashutosh Mhaskar. All of them were very welcoming, open, positive, helpful, and happy of this sharing with Auroville.

This bridge between Auroville and Baroda is very important for Baroda and also for Auroville community.

We arrived in Baroda on the 24th of September; on the 25th we visited already the Performing arts dept. and the Playbox theatre.

VAST work In progress performance

We were very happy to perform our work in progress VAST on the 26th September.

It was very nice to share our creative process inspired by Integral Yoga of Sri Aurobindo and Mother. The final version of the show will be ready next year beginning 2019.

Philippe did a short introduction of this work. Then the performance was a great success in front of a full venue. Ashwin for the light and Suresh for the sound did a great work in collaboration with the technicians of the theatre which is a magical venue, old and full of good spirit. We felt the support of Auroville and many aurovilians were there in the audience. Serena and Venkatesh shooted the show.

VAST tells the story of a young Nepalese man who was forced to leave his Himalayan Mountains. He is now alone, like a foreigner stifling in his small room in the big slum of the Indian city.

Beyond confinement and misery, he tries day after day, in his routine, to find in his body a door that opens onto the Vast, a path to his Himalayas.

An encounter with a strange character will help him on his journey.

This show is performed by 2 actors dancers on stage: Thierry Moucazambo, Gopal Dalami and directed by Philippe Pelen Baldini. Inspired by Sri Aurobindo and Mother we work about body memories and are looking for this vastness in the body in the matter beyond confinement. This universal story touched all the audience in the theatre and we had standing ovation at the end of the show and a lot of very good feedbacks. We even got a good article in the local newspaper Divya bhaskar .

Media:

“It creates a magical moment. At the end peace can achieve when your soul meet to Almighty”.

                                                                                                         Gujrat newspaper Divya bhaskar .

Two days’ workshop: 27th & 28th September

We were very happy direct a dance theatre workshop for the dance dept. and theatre dept. students.    The title of the workshop was: E.MOTION, energy in motion.

We offered an approach to find the performer’s creativity through body experience. How to find one’s own physical and theatrical language. This process is inspired by Sri Aurobindo and Mother.

It was an amazing and deep experience for everyone. Around 50 students attended the worshop here are some feedbacks:

“You all are just amazing, you all teach very well, I feel relaxed, I gained many beautiful things, positive energy from you all. Thank you very much, keep in touch”. Dhowani Ashutosh Mhaskar professor dept of dance faculty of perf.Art(Bharata Natyam)

“This workshop is extraordinary, I get some unique energy my feeling is beyond the word. Thank you”. Maitraye

“It was really a great experience. We got a lot to learn from the workshop and the play then by you. Thank you”. Maneesha

“It was a wonderful workshop, we felt free to express our feelings with each other through eyes and were free to explore, thank you”. Maitrayee

Bhu performance

We were very happy to perform BHU/Earth for the closing of the festival at CC Mehta auditorium. The collaboration with technicians was very good and finally we had time to set light and sound in a good way and also to rehearse the day before in a very beautiful yoga dance studio. The stage in the auditorium was perfect for Bhu.

Bhu is inspired by the oldest martial art of the world, Kalaripayattu that gave birth to many art forms in South India. In the spirit of Integral yoga of Sri Aurobindo and Mother, we develop this ancient form in a contemporary way. Bhu tells the story of a man who reconnect with himself and Nature.

Bhu is performed by 6 Kalari warriors, musicians, dancers, actors and directed by Philippe Pelen Baldini.

It was not a full venue like the opening but a very good audience. Lot of emotion and standing ovation it was really a magical closing ceremony.

Here are some feedbacks:

“The performance of Auroville was amazing; it was a true retreat and memorable experience. Thank you so much and commendable”. Dr Ambika Patel MSU

“You aurovilians are in our heart, excellent program”. Sonal Joshi

“Very wonderful and accomplished performance. One of the rare ever viewed. Thanks to all artists and the director. Many congratulations and best wishes from Sri Aurobindo society of Baroda”. Kailash Joshi, Sri Aurobindo society of Baroda

“Many congratulations and accolades to the entire team for bringing this ancient and rich art form with an exquisite message to the barodian audience as a part of enriching legacy of Sri Aurobindo in Baroda. We would love to be notified of such activities and performances in the future and hope to visit Auroville soon”. Nayana Trivedi

“Heal-Arity” is a fun filled week-long immersion in the universe of the Clown, especially created by MeDi Clown Academy, to introduce the participants into the art and profession of medical clowning.

The two main goals of this workshop are to guide the participants into a self-journey discovering their unique clown-personality; and the application of this work in healthcare, education and corporate environments.

To this end, we have designed an intensive integrated 110 hour programme incorporating physical, mental and creative activities and exercises.

We will explore ritual, ceremony and theatre techniques, building day by day upon them through improvisation, imagination, puppetry, magic, music, movement, non-verbal storytelling, play, embodying dreams and different dimensions. We will also share case studies to show how we have applied all of these tools and techniques in real life situations. And, as part of the training, we will facilitate a 14 hours Certified Laughter Yoga Leader Training.

To compliment this process of self-expression, we will guide the participants in exercises to embody their dreams and encourage and support each participant to manifest their vision.

Heal-arity takes place in Adishakti Laboratory, a beautiful and special place in South India, dedicated to Arts and research. The campus, surrounded by nature, offers the best conditions and facilities for this residential workshop.

This introductory immersion training is open to everyone: artists, educators, healthcare professionals and those interested in health and wellbeing. This workshop is a prerequisite for the Professional MeDi Clown Certificate Training Program.
