The Sanctuary Wildlife Photography Awards 2026

Call for Submissions!

Yes, it’s that time of the year again! Shutterbugs, dig into your hard drives and send us the very best of your wildlife images. Breathtaking action shots from the wild. Phenomenal portraits of wildlife. Close-up and abstract nature frames. Images that depict conservation and conflict… we want to see it all.

At Sanctuary, we combine still images and stirring words to sensitise human hearts and minds. We believe that evocative images have the power to draw out supportive human responses. Conservation photography is an art form that has helped protect wildernesses virtually from the time cameras were invented. It is a blend of technical skills, natural history knowledge, field experience, and an innate desire to protect wild nature. The Sanctuary Wildlife Photography Awards were instituted to showcase the contributions of India’s best wildlife photographers. Every year, we receive a vast pool of stunning photographs, which reinforces the urgent need to conserve India’s wildlife.

All entries go through a vigorous judging process, designed to distill the very best from thousands of hopefuls. Take a look at our panel of judges below.

PRE-QUALIFICATION CRITERIA
1. Images taken in the wild that best depict Sanctuary’s descriptor: ‘Call of the Wild’.
2. The entrant must be the sole author and owner of the copyright for all photos entered. By entering the contest, the entrant certifies that the entries do not infringe on the copyright, trademark or intellectual property rights of any other person or organisation.
3. Images may be photographed anywhere on the Asian continent. Photographers of any nationality are eligible to participate. There is no age restriction on entrants.
4. A maximum of 5 images can be entered by each individual.
5. RAW/DNG/original JPEG files are to be uploaded on your Google Drive and the link has to be shared in the specified field.
6. Update the story on how the image was captured in the Properties Summary (Windows) or File Info (Photoshop) or Caption field (Lightroom). (Refer to points 4 and 5 in ‘Terms and Conditions’ section below for more details).
**Failure to follow these details could render the entry ineligible for selection.

Sanctuary has zero tolerance for unethical practices that put the subjects at risk. No Great Indian Bustard (GIB) photographs shot after April 1, 2013 are eligible, since this highly endangered bird is extremely susceptible to disturbance. Also, for this reason, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has banned its photography during the breeding season. Family pets, garden flowers, domestic or hand-reared animals, those in captivity or restrained in any way and/or photographs of nesting birds will be disqualified. Please carefully read and sign the declaration that must accompany each entry. We are looking to connect with people who love to cook, are good at it, and would enjoy sharing what they know with others.

ACE is not a cooking school. It is a space where cooking knowledge is shared through cooking together, conversation, and shared meals.

We have a well-equipped kitchen at Creativity in Auroville. The plan is to begin regular small-group sessions and workshops from September 2026, usually with 6 to 8 people. We are also open to working in people’s own spaces, where that makes sense.

ACE also has access to professional food photography and video documentation. Over the coming months, we will begin meeting and onboarding people who are interested in becoming mentors and workshop facilitators.

Before programs formally begin, we would like to invite interested people to cook with us, share a meal, and explore possibilities together.

About the Temple

Vadukeeswarar Temple (also called Thiruvandarkoil Temple or Panchanadeeswarar Temple) is a sacred site dedicated to Lord Shiva, worshipped here as Vadukeeswarar, represented in the form of a lingam. His consort Parvati is depicted as Thiripura Sundari.

The temple is situated on the Chennai–Villupuram highway and is revered in the Tamil Saiva canonical work Tevaram by the saint poets known as the Nayanmars, classified as a Paadal Petra Sthalam.

The complex spans about two acres, enclosed with concentric rectangular walls, and contains several shrines, with the most prominent being those of Vadukeeswarar and Thiripura Sundari. The temple is believed to have been originally built by the Cholas, with later additions from other ruling dynasties.

The collective exhibition will show the work of the 5 artists selected, who worked on the theme of the first edition: “The Sun, the Moon and the Truth, three things cannot be long hidden”

Miksang is a contemplative photography practice. Meaning ‘Good Eye’ in Tibetan it is a practice to synchronise the heart, mind & inner being.

Miksang invites us to see the world with fresh eyes, to let go of our conditioning, our stories, our techniques. Through practice we open our hearts and minds to the magic of the world

The session includes an introduction to Miksang, mindfulness practices to attune, and then time for practice. In this session we will be focusing on the element of colour. We will explore and perceive colour as a pure element of the visual world and deliver this through images.

It is suitable for all – participants just need to bring themselves & something to take photos with (a phone is fine)
