The Golden Bridge Pottery situated in Pondicherry on the southeast coast of India was founded in 1971 by Deborah Smith and Ray Meeker. The studio produces a flexible line of wood fired, glazed, stoneware pottery.

Deborah took charge of the pottery production in 1985 when Ray began a series of experiments in “fired building” technology. Deborah retired in 2018 and Ray presently manages the production and oversees student training and artist residencies that began in 1983. He continues his individual work on monumental clay sculpture. She is the golden bridge, the wonderful fire. The luminous heart of the Unknown is she.

On this auspicious occasion of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Sri Aurobindo (15th August 2022), Sri Aurobindo Society, Puducherry, and Kolkata Sukriti Foundation, have prepared a documentary film on Sri Aurobindo. It portrays this pioneering leader of the Freedom Movement and revolves around the period 1908 to 1909 when Sri Aurobindo was in jail in Alipore in Kolkata. Entitled ‘The Transformation’ in English and ‘Naya Janma’ in Hindi, the film is about 54 minutes long.

The film will be telecast for the first time on Doordarshan in Hindi and English on the 14th and 15th of August, 2022 and will be available on social media platforms.

In the past two years we realised the potential of dance films more than ever. In the absence of a stage to perform, artistes began to explore this medium to reach out to the audience. In the process, many of them saw the dance-film collaboration as an exciting option to tell a story or share creative ideas. Though as an independent genre it is still niche and new, it is gradually finding an involved audience.

In this context, Manifest, a dedicated dance film festival, holds much significance. To be held from July 29 to 31 in Puducherry, it will indulge in cinematic exploration of movement and choreography. Organised by AuroApaar along with Narthaki (venue partner is Alliance Francaise), it will include documentaries on dance, mainstream musicals, music videos, and fiction or experimental dance films.
