Dates: Saturday, June 14th & 21st
Time: 4:00 – 5:00 PM
Venue: Sangam Hall, Savitri Bhavan
All are welcome

What is Deeper Body Work?
This is a labour of love to gently shift our body’s habits and to turn it to be a servitor of the Divine. Our body has a sponging nature—it absorbs emotions, energies, feelings, and even thoughts of others from the environment. We seek to reverse this habit. Inspired by the Mother’s practice within the cells, where cells turned upwards offering themselves to the Lord, we too seek to wait for the Divine’s action and Grace. This enables practitioners of the Integral Yoga to continue transformational work in the body.

Deeper Body Work consists of simple, subtle, experiential practices focused on sensations, energies, vibrations, movements, emotions, and thoughts. The aim is to discover a pure substance present in the core of every cell, enabling a deeper connection to the Divine and opening the way to receive Divine Qualities.

Source
In Integral Yoga, many sources have been given to connect body and soul to the Divine. The mantric words of Savitri, when meditated upon deeply, act within our body and being. With practice, we receive Divine action and settle within. Huta’s paintings serve as a guide to focus, enabling real-time connection to Divine Consciousness and unlocking higher dimensions of awareness.

About the Facilitator
Arul Dev, author of Into Great Depth of Your Being and The Flame Within, has over 30 years of experience in training, coaching, and human resources, with a deep background in Integral Yoga. His work integrates insights from Savitri, the Mother’s Agenda, and Sri Aurobindo’s teachings, focusing on transformation at the level of body, sensations, emotions, thoughts, and memories.

Diploma Course in Kattaikkuttu https://auroartworld.org/diploma-course-in-kattaikkuttu/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=diploma-course-in-kattaikkuttu Tue, 13 May 2025 13:47:58 +0000 https://auroartworld.org/?p=54332

Announcing a Kattaikkuttu Diploma Course starting in October 2025. Please fill-out the SURVEY to show your interest in the program or forward to an interested friend or colleague. Thank you!

Vanakkam. Greetings from Kattaikkuttu Sangam!

Are you passionate about the performing arts? Are you an actor, musician, dancer, or someone curious about exploring the roots of theatre? This is your chance to train in Kattaikkuttu, also known as Therukoothu, one of India’s vibrant traditional theatre forms.

From October 2025 onward, the Kattaikkuttu Sangam plans to offer a first-of-its-kind residential diploma course in Kattaikkuttu that will cover all aspects of this complex theater tradition over the course of 10 months. This foundational training in Kattaikkuttu will allow you to become a performer in a professional Kattaikkuttu theater company and/or further your career as a contemporary theater performer, film actor, or (theater) director.

The Course

The Diploma Course in Kattaikkuttu is a 10-month-long immersive residential program where you will be trained in all aspects of Kattaikkuttu (Perungattur style) under the guidance of Guru P. Rajagopal and his talented team of acting and music teachers. In addition to learning to sing, speak, and act, you will have the opportunity to familiarize yourself with one of Kattaikkuttu’s musical instruments: harmonium, mridangam/dholak, and mukavinai (a small oboe-like wind instrument).

The principal medium of instruction for the course is Tamil, but some of your teachers speak English too. When you are not fluent in Tamil or do not know Tamil at all, we still encourage you to apply. However, you will need to improve your fluency during the course or focus on the non-language aspects of the tradition, such as Kattaikkuttu’s high-energy movement vocabulary, its makeup and costumes, or its music.

The course will culminate in two all-night (i.e., 8-hour-long) productions from the traditional Kattaikkuttu repertoire. The course will also focus on using Kattaikkuttu in a contemporary theatre setting, resulting in the production of an existing short play or new work. Additionally, there is scope for people from an academic background to discover more about the social, economic, and ritual aspects of Kattaikkuttu, in combination with getting to know Kattaikkuttu practice and the theatre’s tacit knowledge system. You will receive a certificate upon completion of your 10 months of training.

Living Your Yoga Through The Arts Of Transformation According To Jerzy Grotowski (Theatre, Song, And Dance) https://auroartworld.org/living-your-yoga-through-the-arts-of-transformation-according-to-jerzy-grotowski-theatre-song-and-dance-4/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=living-your-yoga-through-the-arts-of-transformation-according-to-jerzy-grotowski-theatre-song-and-dance-4 Wed, 07 May 2025 00:32:40 +0000 https://auroartworld.org/?p=54248 Body and vocal explorations based on songs, dances, and spiritual texts from around the world

Dates: 10-16 May
Venue: CRIPA Big Hall, Auroville
Time: 9.15am-12.15pm and 2pm-6pm
Registration: aurovilleartworld@gmail.com
Fees for non Aurovilians: Open to choice with a minimum of 5000/-
Open contribution for Aurovilians

About the workshop:

The first part of the workshop will be devoted to exploring the musical and rhythmic foundations of texts from various spiritualities (Song of Songs, Gita-Govinda, Bhagavad Gita, etc.) as well as learning vibrational songs and dances from around the world (Latin Gregorian chants, Ukrainian and Georgian polyphonies, African and Afro-Caribbean songs, etc.).
Biographical narratives from the participants may be used, particularly for emotional exploration.

The second part will consist of physical and vocal training to release tension while strengthening the participant. They will explore their simple presence in space, holding themselves in an energetic physical body, listening and watching. They will achieve a balance between a position anchored within themselves and one entirely open to the outside world. In total availability, the trainee will then be able to offer their attention, their body, and their presence to the space, to the partners, and to the artistic materials that will “pass through” them. In the words of Jerzy Grotowski (Polish theatre director and teacher, 1933-1999), the text will “read” the trainee, the song will “sing” them, and the dance will “dance” them.
A collective “organic” action will be developed, composed of texts, vibrant songs, and movements.

The facilitator:

Fabrice Nicot is a director and teacher associated with the Grotowski Institute (Wroclaw, Poland). Holder of the French State Diploma of Theater Professor (D.E.), he teaches theater practice at the Cours Florent in Paris (professional cycle), at the University of Paris 8, at the Faculty of Arts of Strasbourg (France), and in conservatories. He is also teaching anthropology at the State University of Haiti.
A graduate as an actor of the E.N.S.A.T.T. (French State National School of Theater Arts and Techniques) and in theater studies from the University of Paris 3 Sorbonne – Nouvelle, actor, director, and Professor, Fabrice Nicot teaches and produces his performances in France and abroad.
As producer of international artistic events, he has co-founded and co-directed, among other things, the Iranian Springs for the municipality of Paris and the Iranian Center for Dramatic Arts, then the Andrei Tarkovsky Academy and Festival of Sacred Arts in cooperation with the Andrei Tarkovsky International Institute and Andrei Andreievitch Tarkovsky.
He has organized international educational exchanges for the CNSAD (The National State Drama School), the Cours Florent, and various universities. He has conducted fieldwork over several years as an anthropologist of the arts among artistic communities around the world (India, Africa, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, etc.), publishing articles (in the journals Arts Sacrés, Le Monde des religions, Europe, Danse conservatoire, etc.) and organizing seminars.
