INTEGRAL POLARITY PRACTICE

Integral Polarity Practice is an awareness and life practice that can be used to enhance interrelated individual and collective healing, integration, and transformation. The practice developed out of the big mind process, which enables a person to access transcendent states of awareness through an application of two-way dialogue, a ranging therapeutic technique. Other than the big mind process, IPP is informed by developmental and other integral perspectives and aspects drawn from different spiritual traditions. It got refined in the context of a group working together for nearly two decades and through the developers (John Kesler) own ongoing inquiry. IPP provides a rich practice that can complement any approach to life or spiritual practice.

ASAP Fiction invites submissions in prose, poetry and hybrid formats.

At the crossroads of image and word, the Fiction segment at ASAP Art will support creative writing in forms that generate narrative axes in dialogue with lens-based and inter-media practices from South Asia. The segment is interested in exploring ‘image’—whether public, private, imagined or remembered—as a catalyst for creative writing, and all contributions feature an image (or more) selected by the writer. We publish fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, experimental formats, translations and genre writing.

Whether your submission is for poetry or prose, we request that you send only one work (a clutch of poems, a singular poem or a single piece of writing in prose formats) in a word file or pdf format. Due to our identity as both mobile application and web page, we encourage submissions to not exceed 1500 words to retain readability across variable screen dimensions. All submissions accepted for publication will receive a writing fee.

Artist statement: Amistad América is a monumental site-specific painting commissioned by Landmarks for The University of Texas at Austin.

In creating Amistad América, I am inspired by the natural and cultural landscape of Texas and the Americas. The Spanish translation of the state’s name, Tejas, derives from the Native American Caddoan word táy-sha, which means “friends.” In Spanish, Amistad means “friendship.”

For this project, I have continued to work with my interest in the history of migration and began by painting abstract shapes of broken wall surfaces resembling the outline of maps, and borders between nations. Calligraphic flourishes suggest our civilization’s continual struggle with migratory traces, trade, and cultural exchanges that harm the natural world and form a charged political climate.

From the Cognitive Revolution (c.70,000 BCE) when Homo-Sapiens evolved imagination to modern times, art in its endless visual forms has given us clues to how humans record, behave and perceive the meaning of our lives. Art has the power to be a tool for positive change and resistance against injustice in a world where no condition is permanent. In painting I seek abstraction and feeling as a form of communication to provoke open diplomatic conversation.

My process in this project started out by making a study in my Brooklyn studio using paint, plaster, and found ephemera. The work also incorporates transparencies of color and engraved lines that act as close-ups of city grids like the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd and Guadalupe Street in Austin where the mural at Rowling Hall will live permanently. By acknowledging these geographical and lingual origins, my painting references the rich and turbulent cultural history of the Americas.

DEADLINE EXTENDED TO JULY 31, 2016!

Calling all literary translators, radio dramatists, and international radio drama enthusiasts! Play for Voices seeks radio play scripts in English translation.

Play for Voices is a new podcast of international radio drama slated to launch in the early fall of 2016. Our monthly hourlong show will present new productions of contemporary and classic radio plays from around the world, exploring their aesthetic, social, and political contexts through inventive, multilingual sound design and interviews with authors, translators, and other interesting people. We’ll feature English-language plays and plays in English translation.

We’re excited to be partnering with Words without Borders for our first contest. We invite submissions of translated radio plays of all lengths and from all languages. The Play for Voices producers and Words without Borders editors will select the winners. The winning play(s) will be produced by Play for Voices and published in Words without Borders.

Contest Guidelines

– Plays must be written or adapted for radio. We are not currently seeking unadapted stage plays or other literature.

– Plays can be of any length, and translated from any language.

– Translators should determine that performance and publishing rights are available before submitting and, if possible, provide contact information for the rights holders.

– Play for Voices and Words without Borders will retain nonexclusive first publication rights to produce and publish submissions.

– Submissions should include two attachments:

• A single MS Word document containing: 1) the English translation of the play; 2) short bios for the author and translator; 3) a translator’s note that includes background information about the play and its production history; and 4) any details regarding rights.
• A PDF of the original play.

– Multiple submissions are permitted.

– Please email submissions to contest@playforvoices.com.

– Submissions will be accepted until July 31, 2016.

We are inviting proposals under our Arts Research programme from researchers and practitioners who are interested in undertaking research projects that could investigate marginalised or relatively unexplored areas; who intend to create spaces for dialogue between theory and practice; who offer new readings/frameworks of artistic practices; and who use interdisciplinary approaches to break new conceptual ground, among other things.

The Arts Research programme supports scholars, researchers, and practitioners to undertake research into the various histories and expressions of artistic practices in India. It seeks to foster wider perspectives, understandings, interpretations and engagements in the arts.

IFA specifically encourages projects in Indian languages other than English, so as to contribute to discourse in particular language contexts.

Research projects should have clear research objectives, in-depth background survey, critical research questions, rigorous methodologies and specific outcomes that will be shared in the public domain. The outcomes could be books, essays, films, etc.

Who can apply?
The programme is open to proposals from scholars, researchers and practitioners across disciplines.

You are eligible to apply if you are an Indian national, a registered non-profit Indian organisation, or have been resident in India for at least five years.

If you are applying on behalf of an institution, please include background information on the organisation as well as the memorandum of association/trust deed, annual reports, and audited statements of accounts for the past three years.

Application process
You may choose to write your proposal in any Indian language including English. The IFA staff would be glad to answer your questions regarding this programme. You can approach us to discuss your ideas or send us a draft proposal for our suggestions and comments.

Your proposal will be assessed with the help of external evaluators and all decisions on grants made by IFA will be final.

Please include the following in your proposal, so it is not considered incomplete:

1. The content of the proposal should have clear research objectives, in-depth background survey, critical research questions, rigorous methodologies and specific outcomes;
2. Supporting material, if any, which gives us a sense of your work;
3. Your bio-data;
4. A detailed budget breakdown that explains how funds will be used. Please also mention funds anticipated from other sources, if any; and
5. Your address, telephone numbers, and e-mail address

Duration of the Project
Your project may have a minimum duration of one year and a maximum duration of one year and six months.

Budget
You can request for support up to Rs 4 lakh.

You may budget for an honorarium of Rs 12,000/- per month subject to a maximum limit of Rs 1,44,000/- for the entire duration of the grant. Please note that the total grant amount is inclusive of the honorarium.

Deadline
We request you to send your final proposal, including your bio-data and all supporting material, in hard copy only.

Final proposals should reach us no later than July 11, 2016

No supporting material will be sent back to the applicant.

General Information:

1. Our funds will cover only project-related personnel costs, activities and travel, and can provide for modest equipment hire and materials, if necessary. Please ensure that each budget category pertains to a specific item of project-related expenditure
2. If you are an individual, please budget for an accountant up to Rs 3000/- only
3. Please do not budget for institutional overheads, building costs and infrastructural development. We do not support buying of equipment either, but if you must buy equipment for the project, you must return it to IFA after the project is completed
4. If your proposal is short-listed, you may be requested to respond to questions that arise out of the evaluation process
5. The selected grants will be announced in October, 2016

As a theater director, I’m working on the adaptation of “My Burning Heart”, an interview of Satprem in 1988 by French journalist F. de Towarnicki. Readings are planned in Auroville, Chennai and Paris for March and April 2015.

The idea is to present the piece in different Auroville International Centres in different languages. French and English adaptations are already in process. For the other languages I am looking for translations and also for people interested in performing the readings.

The piece is supposed to have a duration of 1 hour and 15 minutes and the script is around 20 pages.
