The word CHHAU originates from ‘Chhavni’, a term that describes a resting stop for soldiers. One of such chhavni in the regions of Jharkhand and Bengal saw the rise of this martial art-cum-dance form where animal postures were imitated and a play between the wild was adapted into dance by the soldiers awaiting. And chhau was born. It boasts the playful imagery of childhood games, the grandeur of our epics, and the finesse of movements. Thus making Chhau a spectacle that engages sport, art and spirit.
We invite everyone to participate in a 1-Month Workshop in Chhau with the Internationally renowned Seraikela Chhau Group under the tutelage of Adhar Kumar, Director of ‘Indian Chhau Dance Youth Association’ Jamdih, Saraikela Kharsawan, Jharkhand.
