Invitation to Participate | The Descent of Light – Centenary Darshan, November 2026

Dear Artists,

We are happy to share that we have started preparations for our November exhibition, The Descent of Light, and would like to invite you to contribute artwork(s) inspired by the theme.

A short note introducing the theme is attached to this email for your reference.

This exhibition holds a special significance, as the upcoming 24 November 2026 Darshan marks the centenary of Sri Aurobindo’s historic Siddhi experience- the descent of Krishna’s Light into the physical in 1926. If the theme resonates with you and inspires you to create or offer a work for this special day, we warmly welcome artworks from all disciplines and media.

A selection of works will also be offered for sale through Art for Land, supporting its vital work towards securing Auroville’s land. At the same time, with the artists’ agreement, certain works will be retained to become part of the Auroville Art Collection- a permanent collection for posterity, testifying to Auroville’s creative dynamism.

If you would like to participate, please send us photographs of the artwork(s), along with the medium, dimensions, and a few lines describing each piece, before 1 November 2026.

If you already have artworks that resonate with the theme, please feel free to share them with us as early as possible rather than waiting until the November deadline.

We heartily welcome you to be part of this special historical occasion and contribute to Auroville’s growing artistic heritage.

Aikido is a path which aspires to the unity of mankind, the unification of the self with the universe, the union of Spirit and Matter. Seen as such, and in the perspective of the integral development of the being as emphasized by Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, it is no wonder that Aikido has always been greatly valued in Auroville and introduced since the very early years. Both children and adults can enjoy and benefit from its complete practice. There are no competitions in Aikido. On the self-defense aspect of it, an aggressor's attack may be stopped without harming or injuring him/her. The AV Aikido group welcomes new practitioners, Youth and Adult students, and the ones who would like to revive an old (abandoned) practice! Adult classes: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, 6 - 7:30am, early morning. Beginners are most welcome. Girls and women are especially called to join us.
