Seen as such, and in the perspective of the integral development of the being as emphasized by Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, it is no wonder that Aikido has always been greatly valued in Auroville and introduced since the very early years. On the self-defense aspect of it, an aggressor's attack may be stopped without harming or injuring him/her. Over more than 30 years, he took thousands of photographs, revealing a formally rigorous talent whose precision and dedication bridge the XIX and XX century worlds of image-making and bring a distinctly sculptural aspect to a firmly two-dimensional art form. Beautifully but starkly composed against plain cardboard backgrounds, Blossfeldt’s images, relying on a northern light for their sense of volume, reveal nothing of the man but everything of themselves. They are still lifes, piercingly final statements on their subject, and have endured owing to their aesthetics and the ongoing fascination of students and photographers. Like their maker, they are quietly and lastingly effective. Using words and images to connect the two and express something buried, something unpredictable, something dangerous, or beautiful. We find things we are not always looking for. Some things come to us. Some things we want but can't receive. You can bring something you have recently found. Or you can explore the area around and find an object as a starting point. We will explore how you can convert that into art, into a film-poem. A guided workshop into making a short film-poem, a unique language to communicate through words and images. Participants may bring a smartphone (with video camera); a DSLR or other camera that can record video. Workshop structure: 9 am to 9:30 am : Introduction to the concept 9:30 am to 12 pm : Guided exploration of the area, devising the film-poem and shooting 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm : Group discussions, sound/voice over recording, editing and final film screenings 4:30 to 5 pm : Wrap up Take Away: The participants will receive a copy of the films they have worked on. The films will be screened and discussed at the studio at the end of September as part of its monthly harvest presentations - an exhibition open to the public. The workshop is open to all levels. The workshop host Abhyuday is an award-winning filmmaker and participant of the Berlinale Talent Campus. He has studied film at the University of Arts London, in Xavier's Kolkata and LV Prasad, Chennai. He has worked in independent international co-productions and commercial cinema.
