Music: Ghost Love Score by Nightwish (cover by Yannis Papadopolous)

This song is one that I regularly go back to whenever I want to remind myself who the greatest singer in the world is. Though I don’t particularly have any connection to the song itself, I am a huge fan of Yannis and am always inspired by his commitment to his craft and his mastery over his voice. I also admire the way he subverts expectations and goes against the norm for both his gender and the genre he is in.

Ghost Love Score by Nightwish is perhaps the crowning achievement of one of the greatest symphonic metal bands around. At nearly 10 minutes long, it is a compositional masterpiece with a beautiful, soaring melody at its centre.

But perhaps more impressive than the original is this cover by Beast in Black’s singer Yannis Papadopolous. Though he is no stranger to singing with a typically female register and tone, the fact that he is able to sing the song in the same key as Nightwish’s singer, Floor Jansen, is an incredible feat that clearly exhibits his ridiculous talent as a singer.
