Dhani Muniz is a much-loved son, brother, friend and musician based in the Auroville area of South India, who is currently facing an unexpectedly long and difficult medical journey.
In July 2026, Dhani, who has had epilepsy since the age of 19, underwent major brain surgery in Chennai following a series of more severe seizures and an extensive period of neurological investigation.
What was expected to be a challenging but straightforward recovery became much more complicated. He subsequently developed serious complications, including an infection which resulted in meningitis, requiring further hospitalisation, treatment and close medical monitoring.
After several weeks in and out of hospital, Dhani is still not fully recovered. Recent scans have shown continued infection. Medication has not been sufficient to resolve the problem, and on 7th September he underwent a second operation to drain fluid build up and to remove a part of the temporal bone which had become infected.
He is remaining in hospital for at least another two weeks, followed by an extended period living close to the hospital so that he can continue to be closely monitored and receive the care he needs.
The medical and associated costs have become significant and are continuing to grow. In addition to hospital and surgical expenses, there are ongoing costs for medication, investigations, follow-up care, accommodation and day-to-day living near the hospital in Chennai for him and his parents.
Already costs incurred have exceeded 20 lakh rupees ($27k, £15.5k, €18k)
Dhani is a deeply loved person who has brought friendship, humour and of course, music, to many people’s lives. His skills as a guitarist, bass player and arranger have seen him tour the country, playing and recording his own music, and collaborating with or accompanying a variety of artists across the musical spectrum.
Right now, his family is focused entirely on helping him recover, and we would like to help relieve some of the financial burden that comes with such an unexpected and prolonged medical crisis.
