Lucas Posada, an artist whose remarkable journey, beginning with his first solo exhibition in 1992, culminated in a profound body of work that resonated with audiences around the globe. He followed a lifelong quest for spiritual and artistic synthesis. To summarize his artist approach, Lucas titled his website “Kayros”: The critical moment, the right time, the auspicious. Lucas left his body for those who stayed behind at an untimely moment. At the day when he moved with his son to Auroville to prepare the arrival of his wife and daughter, he met an accident and passed away 3 weeks later unexpectedly, just when he was considered be strong enough to leave the hospital. A critical moment, that is difficult to fill with meaning if not for Lucas’ approach to art and the universe.

Lucas was a true polymath, a ‘Renaissance soul’ who effortlessly blended his interests in anthropology, philosophy, physics, psychology, and art history into a coherent artistic vision. His profound respect for symbolic and visual expressions from diverse cultures – encompassing Africa, Oceania, the Americas, and more – was a cornerstone of his creative process. This eclectic approach was not just an artistic choice but a deep spiritual practice, resonating with Eastern philosophies and indigenous wisdom while simultaneously engaging with the existential dilemmas of the Western canon.

His body of work, encompassing both paintings and sculptures, stands as a vibrant testament to his existential urgency and his deep commitment to Expressionism. Living among indigenous communities in Colombia, Lucas absorbed spiritual insights that deeply influenced his artistic expressions. His art transcended the bounds of aesthetic appeal, reflecting a holistic approach to knowledge and reality. His themes – interconnectedness, quantum physics, the depths of human consciousness – were not just subjects but portals to a more profound understanding of existence.

In 2013 he said for en exhibition at Galeria Doscasas: “Caught in the thought of Mircea Eliade, I overflow in the period of Coincidentia Oppositorum or about the dialectic of opposites, where I find the validity of the dual manifestation of objectivity. I necessarily end up in the period of Re-enchantment, in which I seek the unequivocal connection of life and consciousness present in everything. “

Under the mentorship of the esteemed Leonel Góngora, Lucas honed a unique style characterized by an unyielding spirit of exploration and introspection. His work, a harmonious integration of form and color, compels the viewer to confront their inner complexities, mirroring the depths of the human psyche.

An exhibition at Kalakendra Gallery in Auroville, featuring a curated selection of 21 small paintings, is more than a tribute; it is a fulfillment of Lucas’s aspiration to join the Auroville community. Each piece is a window into his understanding of art as a transformative force, an agent of spiritual and cognitive elevation. Through his art, Lucas sought not just to explore the myriad facets of human consciousness but to elevate it, offering viewers a chance to engage with art that is both deeply personal and universally resonant.
