Priya Sundaravalli, a ceramic artist who lives in the International experimental township of
Auroville in South India, and works out of her studio, Pottery Sipapu. Her work is inspired by the
spirit of the wilderness, which she believes lies dormant within each one of us, waiting to emerge
and share its mysteries and delight of existence. “It’s only when we connect to its innate freedom
and wildness, can we begin to heal and become whole,” she says.
Priya has a medical degree from India, and two postgraduate degrees from the USA in Biomedical
Engineering (Drexel University) and Industrial & Operations engineering (University of Michigan
Ann Arbor). She learnt ceramics under the late Felipe Ortega, a master potter from the Jicarilla
Apache tribe of New Mexico. She has exhibited her works in solo and group shows in India, South
Korea, The Netherlands, and China, and participated in international ceramic residencies at the
Clayarch Gimhae museum in South Korea, @Sundaymorning EKWC in The Netherlands, and the
Jingdezhen International Studio in China and Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park in Japan. Her works
are part of public and private art collections in India and abroad, including the Chhatrapati Shivaji
International Airport in Mumbai, the Aravind Eye Hospital, Chennai, the Hilton Manyata,
Bangalore, the Gimhae Airport in Busan, South Korea, the Office of the Vice President, Beijing,
China, and The OWO, London, UK.
