Practitioners Guide to the History of Indian Documentary Cinema

Open Space Documentary Arts Programme
8–11 Sept 2026 | 3–6 pm IST | Online

Looking at any history from a practitioner’s point of view, there lies the possibility to collectively churn and map thoughts on praxis instead of walking down a museum hallway. As a practitioner one gets a chance to have a nuanced understanding of their present with its complexity of form and subjects. Also a possibility of sharpening their craft vocabulary and locating their praxis. From the post avant-garde practice, one can also look at history as a diverse palette of cultural archives and initiate a formal dialogue through their practice.

The 4-day session will see a phase by phase evolution of major trends and traditions in India Documentary filmmaking that span over a century, as India navigates through its major sociopolitical phases.

On the self-defense aspect of it, an aggressor's attack may be stopped without harming or injuring him/her. Aikido is a path which aspires to the unity of mankind, the unification of the self with the universe, the union of Spirit and Matter. Seen as such, and in the perspective of the integral development of the being as emphasized by Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, it is no wonder that Aikido has always been greatly valued in Auroville and introduced since the very early years. Both children and adults can enjoy and benefit from its complete practice. There are no competitions in Aikido. On the self-defense aspect of it, an aggressor's attack may be stopped without harming or injuring him/her. The AV Aikido group welcomes new practitioners, Youth and Adult students, and the ones who would like to revive an old (abandoned) practice!
