Overview: A counter-cultural masterpiece about the act of seeing and the art of image making, Blow-Up takes the form of a psychological mystery. It was Italian director Antonioni’s first entirely English-language film and it starred David Hemmings alongside Vanessa Redgrave and Sarah Miles. It also featured 1960s top-model Veruschka. The film plot was inspired by Julio Cortázar’s short story “Las babas del diablo” (1959) based on a story told by the great Chilean photographer Sergio Larrain. Blow-Up would inspire subsequent films, including Francis Ford Coppola’s The Conversation (1974) screened recently and Brian De Palma’s Blow Out (1981). In an interview at the time of the film’s release, Antonioni stated that the film “is not about man’s relationship with man, it is about man’s relationship with reality”. Blow-Up won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, 1967. Jeanluc says he chose Blow up “not only because it is a great mystery thriller by an essential director Michellangelo Antonioni, but because of its timelessness. It lets people understand how was the world, in the early beginning of Auroville.” 

Synopsis: During the Swinging-London 1960s, Thomas, a London photographer believes he inadvertently photographed evidence of a murder only to have the evidence mysteriously disappear. His blowing up of pictures he secretly took in apark reveal a murder in progress. Or do they? (Original English version with Eng. subtitles. Duration: 1h.51’) 

Jeanluc Buro was a photographer in France from the 80s, known as a portrait and fashion-beauty photographer. He documented the underground music scene in France. He gave classes on Communication in Cinema in ESSIEE, Paris (Aeronautic School of Engineering). He is a video artist and is part of the organising team of the Auroville Film Festival.

Synopsis et vue d’ensemble : Chef-d’œuvre de contre-culture sur l’acte de voir et l’art de l’image, Blow-Up rentrerait dans le genre “mystère psychologique”. Premier film entièrement en langue anglaise du réalisateur italien Antonioni, il met en vedette David Hemmings aux côtés de Vanessa Redgrave et Sarah Miles. On y croise également la top model des années 1960 Veruschka. L’intrigue du film a été inspirée de la nouvelle de Julio Cortázar « Las babas del diablo » (1959) basée sur une histoire racontée par le grand photographe chilien Sergio Larrain. Blow-Up inspirera d’autres films, dont LaConversation (1974) de Francis Ford Coppola, récemment présenté par Aurofilm, et Blow Out (1981) de Brian De Palma. Dans une interview au moment de la sortie du film, Antonioni a déclaré que son film « ne traite pas de la relation de l’homme avec l’homme, mais de la relation de l’homme avec la réalité ».

Synopsis: Dans les années 60 en Angleterre, appelées le “Swinging London”, Thomas, un photographe de mode londonien, pense qu’il a, par inadvertance, photographié un meurtre en cours, et en a des preuves -que l’agrandissement (le blow up) révèle. Jeanluc Buro était photographe en France dans les années 80, connu pour ses portraits et photos de mode et du monde de la beauté. Il a aussi documenté la scène musicale underground Française. Réalisateur de vidéos d’art (vidéaste) et cinéphile, il a donné des cours de Communication au Cinema à l’ESSIEE (Ecole d’Ingénieurs en Aéronautique, Paris). Il fait partie de l’équipe organisatrice de l’Auroville Film Festival.
