Indianostrum Théâtre

is delighted to present

MUSICALITY IN A BODY

A theatre workshop
by Jean-Jacques Lemêtre of the Théâtre du Soleil, Paris

Dates: 25th, 26th March 2017

Time: 9am to 2pm
Venue: Indianostrum Théâtre, Pondicherry.
Fees: INR 2000

About the workshop: The workshop is open for all. You can be an actor, dancer, singer, musician, or someone with no such background at all. But, if you are interested in exploring, discovering and experimenting with the connection of human body with sound, then this workshop is for you!

There will be individual and collective exercises which will lead to a process of musical elaboration that will draw from the creative experience of Jean-Jacques Lemêtre’s work with the Théâtre du Soleil.

Participants will be encouraged to go beyond the technique and through dissociation and disharmony, examine the relationship of the artist with his environment.

This method calls for a re-learning of the body’s rhythm and the role of music in theatre.

You will work without musical instruments, in order to fully explore the rhythmic, melodic and harmonic potential of our bodies through movement, breath and speech patterns.

At the end of the workshop you will have an opportunity to interact with Marcel Ladurelle, the musical instrument maker who has been working with Jean-Jacques Lemêtre for a number of years.

About Jean-Jacques Lemêtre: Jean-Jacques Lemêtre is a theater musician and a French singer-songwriter. Having worked with Gregorian chant, and playing many instruments, such as clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, glass-armonica, percussion, and plucked and rubbed strings, Jean-Jacques Lemêtre draws from all musical sources, from all origins.
Since 1979, he has composed and performed musical scores for all the shows and films of Ariane Mnouchkine’s Théâtre du Soleil .

Conductor of his own scores, Jean-Jacques Lemêtre has also worked with other composers as well. Apart from being a composer and performer, he is also a luthier. He believes in transmission of knowledge to others and therefore conducts regular teaching activities.
