“The Secret Of Kells”

Synopsis: The Secret of Kells is an animated film about the making of the Book of Kells, an illuminated manuscript. Set in 9th century Ireland, during the age of Viking expansion, the film’s protagonist is Brendan, a curious and brave boy living in the tightly knit Abbey of Kells under the care of his stern uncle, Abbot Cellach, who is obsessed with building a wall around the Abbey to prevent Viking attacks. Unbeknown to Cellach, his young nephew Brendan, works secretly as an apprentice in the scriptorium of the local monastery, learning the ancient art of calligraphy. As the Vikings approach, revered illuminator Aidan arrives at the monastery and recruits Brendan to complete a series of dangerous, magical tasks… Of the same Irish studio “Cartoon Saloon” that made The Bread Winner and Song of the Sea.

The film will be introduced by Abhijit Roy, professional in media and entertainment with a passion for the animation film art who has joined our team!

 « BRENDAN ET LE SECRET DE KELLS »

Synopsis : Brendan et le secret de Kells (en Anglais The Secret of Kells) est un dessin animé irlando-franco-belge. Brendan, un apprenti moine de 12 ans, vit avec son oncle, le sévère Abbé Cellach, au sein de l’abbaye de Kells. Cet établissement important abrite de nombreux moines copistes et enlumineurs (dans le courant des VIIIe et IXe siècles, l’Irlande est réputée pour cet art). Brendan rêverait de devenir enlumineur à son tour. Malheureusement, l’Abbé Cellach est absorbé par d’autres préoccupations : faire face à la menace des Vikings. Des aventures se profilent et au cours de ce parcours initiatique, Brendan devra aussi aller au cœur de la forêt, royaume des divinités païennes du monde celte, où il affrontera les pires dangers au côté de la jeune magicienne Aisling… Du même studio d’animation Irlandais “Cartoon Saloon” qui a réalisé The Bread Winner et Le Chant de la mer/Song of the sea –que nous avons projetés récemment.

Le film sera présenté par Abhijit Roy, un professionnel des médias et du divertissement et passionné par cet art qui a joint notre équipe !

Note: Le film sera présenté par Param P. Tomanec, réalisateur et élève de G. Reggio. Mais il y a de fortes chances que le réalisateur nous rejoigne en ligne après la projection !
