Join us on Friday the 13th at 4pm for the grand opening of our Ikebana exhibition, presented with Japanese-style artistic woodwork!
What is Ikebana?
Ikebana is the Japanese Art of Flower Arrangement, an art form that brings nature and human expression together through discipline. It celebrates the harmony of natural forms, graceful lines, and meaningful arrangements.
History:
Originating in the 6th century AD in Japan, Ikebana has a rich history. It was practiced by the Samurai to cultivate clarity and focus before battle and has strong roots in the Zen spiritual tradition.
About the Artists:
Valeria Raso Matsumoto has lived in Japan for 15 years and studied Ikebana there for a decade. Her husband Kenji Matsumoto has been practising Japanese-style artistic woodwork for over 30 years. They sailed around the world together, and have been living and teaching in Auroville since 2001.
