Marta Cicionesi is a freelance set designer for theatre, dance and opera. Born in Italy in1963, she grew up in Auroville, India 1968-1980. She has realized more than 100 productions in Sweden, Italy, France, USA, India and Finland.
She has specialized in creating sceneries of great pictorial suggestion, often through painted backdrops designed for particular light effects and projections – achieving images and spaces with a rich atmospheric spectrum. Her set design profile consists of a personal style that lifts stage performances to artistic experiences. As well as designing, Marta Cicionesi produces all sets, costumes and masks herself. Marta is also an active librettist and a film script writer.
Marta Cicionesi Achievements:
She graduated from the State Art Institute of Florence, Italy / Istituto Statale d´Arte di Firenze, in 1985.
She is a member of the Swedish Theatre Guild /Theaterförbundet/ since 1990.
She has received grants for Location scouting and screenplay development from the Swedish Film Institute in 1997 and 2001.
She received The Skillinge theatre culture Prize in 2005.
She received Artist Grants/Stipends from the Swedish Artists Council/ Konstnärsnämnden in 1992, 2003, 2009 and 2012
She received International Cultural Exchange grants/Stipends in 2010, 2012 and 2015 for residencies in France and Finland from the Swedish Artists Council/ Konstnärsnämnden.
